“The group became my weekly anchor”

This time four years ago, I was feeling lonely and isolated, struggling with the daily demands of caring for my son, who has autism. It was a difficult time, and I desperately needed somewhere I could go to talk about what I was going through. That’s when I found Mother2Mother, run by Islington Mind, one of the fantastic support groups funded by Islington Giving.

The group became my weekly anchor. To have people who genuinely understood my situation, who were nurturing, caring and understanding – it felt like a family. There was a warm, homely atmosphere. Suddenly, all these doors started to open up. I made new friends and was able to step outside my bubble and focus on something positive.

I’m now lucky enough to work for Islington Giving, so I see first-hand the difference funding makes to the community I have grown up in, and how so many people’s lives are transformed. But still, in our borough today, it’s so unfair how unequal things are.
