Mental Health First Aid Training Academy

Mental Health First Aid is a two-day training course that teaches you how to recognise symptoms of mental health problems, how to deal with a crisis situation and how to spot the first signs of someone developing mental ill health.

Mental Health First Aid Training Academy

We offer:

Bespoke training courses at your own venue/workplace for groups of staff of between 8 and 16 individuals.

Our team of MHFA Instructors are fully qualified and accredited with Mental Health First Aid England.

How much does it cost?

£280.00 per delegate.

On completion of the two-day course all participants will receive their MHFA manual and certificate of attendance.

You supply:

The room, seating and table for delegates, refreshments, flipchart and flipchart paper

Who should attend?

The training is particularly important and beneficial for frontline workers – anyone who has regular contact with the public

Why should you do the training?

People who are trained in Mental Health First Aid can help to:

  • provide comfort to a person experiencing mental health problems
  • provide help to prevent a mental health problem becoming more serious
  • preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others
  • promote the recovery of good mental health
  • raise awareness of mental health issues in the community
  • reduce the associated stigma and discrimination

What does the training cover?

The training covers a range of topics relating to mental health including:

  • common mental health problems
  • the 5 steps of mental health first aid
  • depression
  • suicide
  • anxiety disorders
  • panic attacks
  • psychotic disorders.

On completion of the two-day course:

All participants will receive their MHFA manual and certificate of attendance.

Please email peter.nevins@islingtonmind.org.uk to discuss your individual requirements.

Islington Mind

We had an amazing day at Outcome’s Islington Mind LGBTQ service on October 31st 2018. The day attracted over 100 guests and included tasters of Outcome’s therapeutic activities such as creative writing and Indian head massage. CLASH (Central London Action on Sexual Health) came to promote their service and the launch of a sexual health clinic at Outcome. Islington’s Pride also promoted their new project which will be starting at Outcome, working with our service users to collect and celebrate Islington’s LGBTQ heritage. Guests came from many organisations, including Survivors UK, Galop, Camden Mind, National Mind, Wandsworth LGBTQ Forum, Hackney and City Mind, and Camden LGBTQ forum. Following an amazing home-cooked lunch, a drama performance took place in the afternoon, as well as an open-mic session - both of which provoked laughter as well as tears. Feedback from service users and guests was very positive, with many organisations suggesting closer work with Outcome in order to further benefit service users. The day was hugely significant in its celebration of the strength and creativity of service users and in promoting Outcome to other organisations and potential service users ... See MoreSee Less

WORKSHOPS FOR NON YOGIS:

Mind Fundraiser: 18th November 11.30 am - 1pm

We are very proud to be running a fund raiser for Islington Mind - Mental Health is no longer taboo but many still have enormous, often self imposed, barriers that stop them addressing any issues they may have to get much needed help.

We know it's sometimes as simple as talking, many people can't do that without kindness, warmth and gentle help.

We talk and support each other at the Factory and are very open about our mental health and because of that we relate wholeheartedly to the struggle so many people have, and we want to help a little.

We are donating studio space and an instructor for Mind to run a Yoga class for non yogis, we politely request a donation per student for the class, every penny of which will go to Islington Mind.

You dont' have to be a yogi, you don't have to be a member, you just have to want to help and get a new skill on the way. And maybe, just maybe, you've suffered a little too.

"Children face a huge amount of pressures, including school stress, bullying, issues with body image and growing up in the online world, which can mean establishing a personal identity from an early age and feeling the need to live the ‘perfect life’."
