World Mental Health Day

In these unpredictable and challenging times, it has never been more important to focus on mental health. The recent lockdown period has been a source of disruption and worry for many people, many of whom have found themselves experiencing worries about their mental health for the first time.

For those with existing mental health conditions or other disadvantages, the pandemic has brought on additional anxiety and hardship.

At Islington Mind, we have been working throughout these changing times to provide emotional support and practical assistance to anyone experiencing mental health challenges this year. In particular, we have been able to provide specialised help to disadvantaged groups, empowering them to take control of their wellbeing.

Please take a look at our gallery to see some of the inspiring thoughts, art, and writing created by our service users.

This World Mental Health Day, we want to support mental health for all by encouraging our service users, staff, and partners to each do one thing for better mental health. Small changes can make a big difference to our mental wellbeing. We’ve put together a list of ideas to get you started:

  • Try out a new, relaxing hobby that you’ve been meaning to start
  • Talk to a good friend about how you’re feelingTake a break – make space for yourself and take time out of a busy day to unwind
  • Reach out to a friend who may be having a hard time, and offer them a chance to share their concerns
  • Commit to a regular physical activity that you enjoy – if you can’t get outdoors regularly, look online for classes or instructions on indoor exercise
  • Arrange a catch-up with some close friends – if you can’t meet up in person, organise a group video chat
  • Take some time to learn more about mental health conditions, and the support available in your area. It could be helpful for you or someone you care about

Public Health has organised a series of webinars, available for anyone to learn about support services available.
The webinar series will cover the Support after Suicide service, iCope, online counselling service for young people and Mental Health Awareness Training. Please click here for the schedule of upcoming events.
